Our Independence Day
    Introduction: the 26th march, 1971 the day on which the independence of Bangladesh was declared, is regarded as our independence day. Now it is a red-letter day in a history of Bangladesh. Every year we observe the day throughout the country in a befitting manner. Many a 26th march had come and gone before 1971. Then it was a day like the other days of the year ordinary, dull and insignificant. It was 1971 that the 26th march turned into a symbol of the Bangladeshi determination to struggle, fight and survive in this world of treacherous activities and sneaking attack on unarmed democratic minded and peace loving civilian people. This is a day to recall why Bangladesh is created.
     
     
    Background: up to 25th march 1971 Bangladesh was one of the two parts of the then Pakistan. This part was called East Pakistan and the other part was called West Pakistan. Right from 1947, the year of the creation of Pakistan, the west Pakistani rulers expiated Bangladesh in all possible ways. They cheated, oppressed and harassed the Bangladeshis in the name of Islam. It this way they established their colonial rule in Bangladesh. Banga Bandhu sheikh Mujibur Rahman realized that complex problems were far from any solution.
     
    Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s party with the absolute majority in the parliament was forced to start a dialogue with a minority party of West Pakistan. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman agreed to stare the dialogue to accommodate his views. The rulers made all military Preparations in the shade of the nock dialogue. Now the treacherous Pakistani army moved out at the dead night of the 25th of March 1971 and caught the people of Bangladesh unaware. Sheikh Mujib was flown to an unknown place of West Pakistan. The Bangladeshi realized their actual position. Finding on other solution the independence of Bangladesh was declared on the 26 march 1971. We started the war of liberation. After nine moths’ struggle we won victory with the surrender of the Pakistani soldiers of the 16 December 1971 Bangladesh emerged as an independent state.
     
    Special program for the day: every year the government, different organizations and institutions chalk out program to celebrate the day in a befitting manner. The national flag is hoisted in all important offices, buildings, institutions and shops. All important places are tastefully decorated. Meetings and seminars are held to explain of the importance of the day. On this day we pay rich tributes to the memory martyrs who laid down their lives for the sake of our independence.
     
     
    Conclusion:  the 26th of March signaled the start of the liberation was of Bangladesh. This is a symbol of our determination to signal the start of the liberations was of Bangladesh. This is a symbol of our determination to survive as a nation of self-respecting people.
