Write a Letter to Your Friend About the Activities and Success of Grameen Bank
    25 May, 2015
    Dear Sujon,

Thank you very much for your letter. You have wanted to know about the activities of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. Sorry friend, I cannot tell you its history. But I can certainly inform you about the changes that have taken place in rural areas of Bangladesh. Perhaps, it was 2004 and I along with my brother went to one of our neighbouring villages after four years. I was surprised to see the houses and the villages.

Every house was lighted with electricity and the thatched houses had been replaced by brick-built houses. Children were sitting on reading tables and some houses even had a TV set. Four years ago, these people would live from hand to mouth. No child was sent to school. Some of them even depended on begging. I asked an elderly uncle what had brought the change. He told me about the ‘Khudra Rin Prokolpo’ (Micro-credit Scheme) of Grameen Bank.

You will be surprised to know that a person has to deposit only Tk. 4/= per week but they are granted a loan of Tk. 20000/=. This small loan strengthened them enough to change their lot. Hope you understand what a magical lamp Grameen Bank is! No more today.

    Yours ever,
    Sultan
