My Visit to a Flood-affected Area

This is well known to everybody that Bangladesh is a country prone to natural disasters. Among them flood is very common and it visits Bangladesh almost every year. During August of the previous year I visited my village which was flood-affected seriously.

Almost all the people of the village were the victims of flood. The sorrow of the common villagers knew no bounds. The water level rose abnormally. It inundated the whole village and its surrounding areas and finally water touched almost the roof of many houses. Any kind of communication was suspended.Crops were damaged greatly, trees were uprooted and many houses were washed away. Human beings, cattle and other domestic animals were passing their days with untold sufferings. The flood water washed away the stored food stuffs and left people in grief and starvation.

The affected people took shelter in school, college, relief camps and were suffering greatly in need of foods, clothes, pure drinking water and medicine. The breaking out of epidemic was a matter of time. In fact, it caused a great devastation. During this hard time, I noticed inadequate relief goods to alleviate the sufferings of the affected people. Above all it was a terrible scene. I will never forget it.
