Write a report on Ancient Structures Unearthed
Sujon Ahmed,Sirajganj, 05 April: The Department of Archeology recently excavated an ancient city at Sujapur in Narsingdi district. This ancient city is approximately a thousand years old and a large number of archaeological remains were found at the site. The Department of Archeology conducted the excavation under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
The regional director of Dhaka Division, Masud Khan supervised the whole operation. The department started the programme of excavation in 2009. The excavation will continue. During the time they excavated a considerable portion of the site and the rest of the work would be carried out step by step by the department.
The excavated structures are yet to be identified but the archeologists assume that one of those might be a water reservoir. Apart from these structural remains the excavation has revealed some important antiques like semi-precious stones, beds, glass beds, terracotta beds, pottery, northern black polish ware, etc.
The Archeological Department of Jahangirnagar University also took part in this excavation.
